The condemned cells in Port Blair's historic cellular jail. Once a penal colony, this famous group of islands now plays host to some of the world's finest Scuba Diving.

The Cellular Jail, also known as 'Kāal - Pani'. KAAL meaning time, i.e. once a prisoner goes there, he doesn't come back to the mainland and PANI mean water, as it is surrounded by water, but over the years it is now terms as KALA PAANI, was a British colonial prison in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. The prison was used by the colonial government of India for the purpose of exiling criminals and political prisoners. Many notable independence activists were imprisoned there during the struggle for India's independence. Today, the complex serves as a national memorial monument (read further).
