Whataway yorlye (Hello, how are you). Although the language spoken on Norfolk Island is English, you will also hear the islanders speaking Norfolk, a unique combination of Tahitian and eighteenth century seafaring English. The Bounty Mutineers and their Tahitian wives and companions developed the language after settling on Pitcairn Island. The dialect was taken to Norfolk by their descendants in 1856.
