Belize - Butterfly Falls

Butterfly Falls, Mountain Pine Ridge
Cayo District, Belize C.A.

Sent by Linda, a TravBuddy member from Belize.

Butterfly Falls is one of the many tucked away cascades and falls on on top of Pine Ridge, Cayo District, Belize. I highly recommend visiting this entire area. This area displays a completely different side of Belize. There are vast pine forests up here in sharp contrast to the lush jungle and rain forest below. There are a number of truly excellent lodges to stay here as well.  In this case, Hidden Valley Inn was kind enough to grant me permission to freely roam their 7,200 acres of preserve. (Source)

Belize City is a picturesque blend of a tropical Caribbean seaport and a modern commercial center, with historical colonial architecture reflecting its colourful past.

Belize City has come a long way since its foundation on mahogany chips and rum bottles and is now a modern city which much to offer.

This is from Wikipedia : Belize City is the largest city in the Central American nation of Belize. Unofficial estimates place the population of Belize City at 79,600 or more. It is located at the mouth of the Belize River on the coast of the Caribbean. The city is the country's principal port and its financial and industrial hub. Several cruise ships drop anchor outside the port and are tended by local citizens. The city was almost entirely destroyed in 1961 when Hurricane Hattie swept ashore on 31 October. It was the capital of British Honduras (as Belize was then named) until the government was moved to the new capital of Belmopan in 1970.
