Nationwide, land-use targets apply to the expansion of onshore wind energy. These are based on the so-called Wind Energy Land-Use Requirements Act (WindBG). The law sets expansion targets for each federal state; for North Rhine-Westphalia, this means that 1.8 percent of the state's land area should be designated for wind energy by 2032.
